Launch of Firefox 3

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

The Firefox 3 is available for download now. I have already put aside internet explorer for a long time.  I have been firefox 3 since RC1, RC2, RC3, hence I did not notice any significant changes besides stability.

I love this browser very much since many plugins can be installed to increase its functionality.

Greasemonkey & Firefox

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I have used firefox instead of ie since the launch of firefox. The best feature is there are many extension/addin for it. One of the best of the best is greasemonkey.

There are many scripts for greasemonkey. Recently, I come across a scripts called LookItUp2. You can quickly look something up in wikipedia, a dictionary or whatever you like by pressing a short cut key. In addition, you can get beautiful search results on the build in sites, you should also install the LookItUp2 userstyle (This requires the Stylish plugin).

If you want to add your own search by the following steps:

e.g. http://dictionary.yahoo.com.tw

1. Go the the site and any search target, e.g. “words”
2. Copy the link
2. Click Greasemonkey icon, user scripts command, LookitUp2 Settings
3. Click “New site”, enter the “Name” and paste the “Url”
4. Add [ and ] enclosing “words”
5. Enter “x” as your key. save

How to use ?
1. Go to any webpage
2. select any target you want to search, press ‘x’
3. Your search results appear.
